Once upon a time, I was a teaching assistant and when I was a teaching assistant I was asked all the time what was the difference between a psychologist and psychiatrist. It is probably the most common question I have ever been asked since I graduated as a psychologist half a decade ago (and wow). There are many differences but both psychologists and psychiatrists have much to offer in helping and treating those with mental health problems. In this episode, we bring in the director of the Institute for Mental Health here in the UK. His name is Professor Matthew Broome and he wants you to know how to become a psychiatrist when you don’t need to be to help in treating mental health disorders, and even what to do if you are already trained in another field.
